Where to stay in London

Who doesn’t like a weekend in the magic city of London?

I do like to spoil myself at least once a year and visit the beautiful capital. Too often though, I hear about the bad experiences people experience in hotels.

It can be hard to find a decent and cheap accommodation so if you are on a budget and are planning a stay in London, I recommend you stay at one of these places, that I, as a single female guest have thoroughly enjoyed.

What all of them have in common is the home feeling, the nice historic buildings, the generous breakfast, the fantastic location and the decent price.

George Hotel

I booked a single room with a separate bathroom at this fantastic place. The hotel is minutes walking away from St Pancras Station, and is located in a very elegant crescent in the heart of Bloomsbury. I paid less than £70 for a comfortable night with a delicious breakfast. It is a bit of an inconvenience of having to go out of your room to use the bathroom but it is not an impossible task, especially when you can save a few bucks. And also, for me, location is more important than an en suite so this ‘hotel’ was perfect!

I stayed in October 2016 for the first time and was going to book a room again when I went back in October 2017 but unfortunately it was full and so I looked for a similar place and found the Ridgemount Hotel, where I spent 1 night.

Ridgemount Hotel

The Ridgemount is my favorite place to date to stay in London. Once again I went for the single room with a shared bathroom but felt so comfortable going out in the corridor in my PJs to use the bathroom, which was on the floor above and was one of the cleanest I ever seen. The room was small but it had all I needed: a TV, a window, a desk and a chair. This ‘hotel’ is also situated in Bloomsbury, in a lovely street packed with museums – it is in fact within walking distance to the British Museum, which I visited on that occasion.

The highlight was the breakfast, cooked from the owner. His passion for what he does is transparent and was just the cherry on the top. I will definitely be back.

Alhambra Hotel

The Alhambra Hotel is another place I really enjoyed on another short break in London. This time I had my en suite room and it was lovely to not have to worry about going out. I was really impressed with the place when I checked in, it was freshly decorated and the staff  was very welcoming. My room was at a very high standard. However, I did not enjoy being in the basement and it is something I need to learn checking when I book accommodation, so make sure you also do that.

Other than that, the room was lovely and breakfast too, plus, it is located just in front of St Pancras Station, so it’s incredibly convenient.

Lastly, if you are heading to the SSE Arena, do not look further and book the Ibis London Wembley

I went to a concert in July 2017 and found the stay at this hotel, an easy and comfortable option. The hotel is literally 5 minutes walking from the SSE Arena and the main restaurants, located just opposite the tube station. Check in was straightforward, the room was spacious and clean. There is a bar on the ground floor which looked really inviting, although we did not use it. And the rate was perfect, if I remember well, just £75 for 2 people.

I could go on and list the places where not to stay in London, but I’ll leave this for another day 🙂 And you? Do you have any recommendation on places to stay when in London?
